This is the home of Joe Clifford Faust, who:
- Is an elder in the Church of Christ,
- makes his living as an advertising copywriter,
- is the author of seven science fiction novels,
- is occasionally known as Mister Faust, an alleged singer-songwriter,
- is the writer and "artist" of The Home World, a hiatused web comic,
- is the guy who used to blog a lot about writing (it's all gone now, sorry),
- is an infrequent haunter of community theater stages,
- and is someone who went to high school in Wyoming, college in Oklahoma, and now lives in Ohio.
If the person you're looking for doesn't meet these criteria, then this isn't the him you're looking for.

At work we live and die by these job sheets. At least we creatives do. Here's one on display in my office, illuminated by a Mighty Bright mini reading light.

A semi-arty shot of the parking lot across from the place where I work, as seen through my Rain-X'ed windshield. Or maybe it's of drops of rain on a windshield with some stuff in the background. That's what's great about art. It's so subjective.

A unit of Allied Troops from my copy of Memoir 44 garrison a desk top while I explore the depth of field of the camera's Macro setting.

Introducing two dogs named Speedy. The one on the left was given to me by my wife for Valentine's Day. She said she got it free when she bought a handful of greeting cards. No matter - I was greatly amused because I thought it resembled the dog on the right - a cartoon one that I "draw" and is part of my webcomic The Home World. So one got named Speedy after the other. Stay tuned to see if the stuffed Speedy turns up again. If you want to see more of the Speedy on the right, visit here.

Today I was trying to take an arty shot of the big, wet flakes of snow falling with my father-in-law's big red barn as the background. On an impulse, I turned and shot this bare tree against the gray sky - and it turned out to be the best of all the shots a took. If you look, you can see a few flecks of the snow against the barn, which looks almost black from this angle.

This is the aftermath of my most recent game of Memoir 44, a system that recreates World War II battles playable in a short time. The short playing time makes it a perfect lunch hour game, providing you work with other game geeks, which I do. I happened to win this one as the Germans, 6 - 4. I almost blew up the Dam on the upper left, but it was captured by the Americans. However, my garrison force inflicted so much damage that the price was too high. Next week my opponent and I will switch sides and replay it.

My wife's work hours have changed and I'm trying to help her out by cooking meals. And I'm one of these "throw a bunch of cans together" guys. Here's what's for dinner tonight: 3 cups of uncooked Rotini noodles mixed with a can of mushroom soup and 1/4 can of water. Cover with Dinty Moore beef stew. Cook in crock pot for two hours. Mix in 1/3 cup sour cream. Eat. My kind of recipe (I got it off the back of the pictured 40 oz Dinty Moore can).

A tight shot of the aquarium in my office (see #1A). The Canon SD 1100 has an "Aquarium" setting that optimizes camera functions for taking such pictures. Unfortunately, some of the subjects, like the Zebras and White Clouds, move a little fast for the slow shutter speed. The little orange-red blur in the center is a Platy fry that has survived its predatory neighbors and now mingles with the general population. Its mother is the similarly colored big one in the back.

So I went and turned off the flash, wondering what the picture would look like. I have overhead fluorescents in my office, but I have all the bulbs over my desk unscrewed because it's just too bright looking into a computer all day. I liked this picture much better. It looked more like what I was seeing on the LCD screen. And I figured out the pre-hold on the button so it's actually in focus.

365 Days of Photos, Maybe, and Photo #1
Twice upon a time, I failed photography - once in high school, once in college. And it was a sordid story each time. Well, I've just caved in to the 21st century and bought a digital camera, a Canon SD1100. And I figure if I actually practice using it, I might get to be proficient with it. So what better way to set the hook than to commit to posting one new picture a day. Follow along and see if I get better, or worse, or boring. And here is the very first photo taken with my Canon SD 1100. I had no idea what I was doing, and the flash, being on auto, kicked in. I hated the result. The view is the inside of my office at the advertising agency as seen from my desk.
